Egyptians were a master people in construction and the pyramids are the perfect testimony to their prowess and engineering.

Built with about 2 million blocks, raised to a height of 147 meters and weighing between 2.5 and 80 tons each, the supply chain required abundant labor. Although some blocks came from different parts of the country, construction took place relatively close to the quarries in order to enable transportation.

In other words, supply chain was planned in detail. From the transport of huge stone blocks to the construction of roads and ramps that have facilitated the building of these monumental structures.

The transportation of these heavy materials, such as stone, was by foot or by the Nile River, using wood sleeds pulled by rope on the sand, which was humidified to facilitate the slip, or boats and barges, if it was on the river.

But do you think the lancient Egypt logistics’ was only about transportation? You’re wrong! It also included warehousing and distribution of goods in barns and warehouses strategically located near the Nile River and other transport routes.

Egyptians’ supply chain sucess reflects their engineering dexterity. Even after so many years these buildings continue to impress by its grandeur!

Egyptian’s logistics legacy remain evident even today. In addition they are a key factor for the success of Egypt in ancient civilization, their heritage was the basis for modern supply chain.
