Road freight has evolved along with the world, standing out for its efficiency and flexibility of routes, it is even through this mode of transport that so many sectors manage to carry out part (or all) of their activities.
That is the reason why it is worth knowing some facts about road freight.
- Due to the high weight trucks need 40% more time to stop than cars (Freightech, 2021).
- De acordo com a Eurostat (2023), em 2021, os produtos mais transportados, através do Transporte Rodoviário, em termos de toneladas, na União Europeia, foram:
- Metal ores and other mining and quarrying products.
- Other non-metallic mineral products.
- Food, drinks and tobacco.
- Agricultural, forestry and fish products.
- Germany, France, Spain, Poland and Italy accounted for about two-thirds of the total tonnes of goods transported across the European Union in 2021 (Eurostat, 2023).
- Globally, trucks consume about 17 million barrels of oil daily, which represents about 1/5 of world demand and the equivalent of the total production of the United States and Canada (IEA, 2017).
- Trucks are built to last a long time, if they are well maintained they can reach between 750,000 km – 1,000 000 km over their lifetime (My Truck Parts, 2016).
- Trucks carry around 77% of all cargo that is transported by road in the European Union (Acea, 2022).
- Currently, more than 6.2 million trucks circulate throughout the European Union (Acea, 2022).
