You probably already needed to export or import goods by sea and have to decide the best logistics option based on the size of your cargo…

Did you know that for the transport of small loads the LCL solution may be the best option? After all, how does this type of transport work?

When the quantity and size of the cargo do not fully fill a container, the LCL shipping: Less Container Load – may be an important alternative for international cargo transportation.

LCL is an option to share the shipment between different goods, from different suppliers, whose destination is common to all. Goods must be delivered in advance in order to organize the container, since they all have different standards. After all the goods are consolidated, the container goes to the destination terminal.

What are the main advantages?

The LCL model is perfect for small loads between 1m3 and 10m3. For shipments over 10m3 it is better to book a full container.

  • The charged amount is only applied to the volume of space you occupy (measured in cubic), unless it is the FCL option, in that case you pay for the entire container. However it is necessary to take into account the negotiation of transport clauses, as the cost of shipping may vary depending on the Incoterms.
  • It is easier and quicker to find available options for this type of shipment during times of increased demand;
  • Storage costs reductions, as there is no need to accumulate standing stock to occupy an entire container;
  • Indicado para empresas com pequeno volume de operações;
