If in 2022 overseas sales of bicycles and components exceeded 800 million euros, at the beginning of this year the bicycles export already increased about 21.68% compared to the same period, a growing trend that has occurred over the last few years. In January, this industry exceeded 60.251.794 million euros, registering the 24th consecutive month of increase.
The total volume of bicycles and components exports has reinforced Portugal’s international visibility, something that is due to the commitment of the companies in the sector that had increased the production as well as the quality. As the numbers attest, Portugal is currently internationally recognized as a leader in the production and export of bicycles in Europe.
In this sector, Portugal intends to position itself as one of the most competitive markets worldwide, such as Northern Europe (France, Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia…) and North America.
As the demand for bicycles increases, car use is poised to reverse the trend, due to the EU’s ban on the sale of new combustion passenger cars. According to these ambitious goals it is expected that around 1 million inhabitants will be able to move around by bicycle in Portugal by 2030.
