The MSC Tessa Container Ship has achieved a historic record in the Port of Sines by being considered the largest container cargo ship to dock in a Portuguese port.
On its maiden voyage, the ship that intends to connect the Far East to the ports of Western Europe, departed from the Chinese port of Ningbo and its first European stop was in Sines, where it handled around 4500 containers.
MSC Tessa is a state-of-the-art container ship, classified as the third largest ship in the world with a cargo capacity of 24,116 TEU’s (only surpassed by “MSC Irina”, with 24,346 TEU’s, and by “OOCL Spain”, of 24,188 TEU’s).
This achievement highlights the importance of the strategic location of the Port of Sines and also reveals the high operational capacity in container loading and unloading management.
